The past week saw a series of major events celebrating the 70th anniversary of Iskratel. On Thursday, April 20, we hosted a press conference, officially presented our anniversary book, the historical video and the exhibition in the company’s entrance hall. On Friday, April 21, we concluded the anniversary celebrations with a gala event at Brdo pri Kranju, attended by 250 people from 21 countries.
Seven decades of Iskratel’s operation are seven decades of the development of telecommunications in Slovenia. Iskratel has made a lasting impact on generations of people here in Slovenia and in many countries across three different continents. It has influenced many industries, institutions, individuals, families, and the society in general.
Preparations for the events of the previous week began almost over a year ago; and these events have shown that the company enjoys a high reputation in the market and in society at large, both at home and abroad. Throughout the 70 years of its operation, strong business relationships and friendships have been forged; some of them continue to this day.
The first culmination of the series of events took place on Thursday, April 20, when the company hosted around 20 journalists. At the press conference, led by Darinka Pavlič Kamien, the keynote speakers were the CEO Željko Puljić and Janez Öri. They offered the press an insight into the background and the concept of the book, video film, and exhibition on our history and presented the key features that still distinguish our company today. They also highlighted the key historical milestones, which feature prominently in the book on Iskratel’s 70th anniversary and prove that the company managed to overcome all the ordeals thanks to the strong will and optimism of its employees.
The next day, on Friday, April 21, we successfully concluded the anniversary with a gala event for our key local and foreign business partners, the diplomatic corps of the partner countries, representatives of the academic, educational and development spheres, and all those who marked the seven decades of our operation. The response to the invitation and, consequently, the attendance at the ceremony were exceptional—we hosted 250 guests from 21 countries!
We were particularly pleased to welcome the highest political representatives and the diplomatic corps at the event: the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, His Excellency Karl Erjavec; the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Slovenia, His Excellency Doku Zavgayev; the Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to Slovenia, His Excellency Tomi Dimitrovski; the Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Austria, Kerim Kozhamberdiyev; and the Mayor of Ljubljana, Zoran Janković. The industry and business representatives at the event included, among others, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BH Telecom, Fuad Čibukčić; the General Manager of Pošta Slovenije, Boris Novak; the Executive Director for Network Operation and Technical Management of Rostelecom, Gennady Ivanovich Solovsky; the Chief Executive Officer of Si.mobil, Dejan Turk; the General Manager of T&W, Hu Zumin; the Chief Technology Officer of T-2, Miroslav Štravs; the President of the Management Board of Telekom Slovenije, Rudolf Skobe; and the Vice-President of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, Igor Zorko, who on this occasion presented the company with a prestigious anniversary award.
In addition to the honorary speakers, our CEO Željko Puljić, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Karl Erjavec, and the Russian Ambassador, Doku Zavgayev, the program featured musical performances by the Sounds of Slovenia with Janez Dovč and Boštjan Gombač, the singer Manca Izmajlova, the ION dance group and the acrobats Filip and Blaž. The event was rounded off with a culinary stroll through Slovenia with the world-class Brdo cuisine, and the guests socialized and enjoyed the pleasant ambient music late into the night.
