The Switch Node is used as a call-control (switching) device for exchanges with larger capacities. This node is based on the MCA platform, hosting the switch-node program package. The MCA uses E1 interfaces to the network as well as to connect the access layer of the system composed of a number of Access Nodes and the access devices of other vendors. They are controlled via standard access protocol (V5.2). Switch Node performs all call-control and call-control-related functionality, as well as networking.

The Switch Node (SN) of the SI2000 system is a top-level, open platform used for building telecommunications and data networks. The SI2000 SN is used for building medium-sized, local, combined and transit exchanges with a wide range of different signaling systems and the ability to connect analog, ISDN, broadband and IP subscribers, as well as different PBX exchanges and access nodes via standard interfaces.
The SI2000 SN supports a number of classical and convergent services; the integration of media gateways, attendant consoles, and contact centres, as well as the building of Centrex networks. The SN is suitable for building telecommunications networks in densely populated city centres as well as in suburban areas and in thinly populated areas.
Apart from the SSN7 signaling, the SI2000 SN also supports a number of CAS systems, which makes it simple to upgrade existing networks and use the system in different environments.
The management and administration of the system are carried out via a remote or local management node, which remains the same with different nodes of the SI2000 system.
The SI2000 SN is an excellent starting point for the transition of a telecommunications network into a next-generation network. Its integrated DSLAM functionality allows the connection of xDSL users to the network. In addition to analog and ISDN subscribers, it is also possible to connect, via access nodes, IP subscribers, to whom all the additional ISDN services are available.
With the help of the media gateway (SI2000 MG), it is also possible to interconnect the end, SI2000 SN exchanges via the IP backbone network, which is an advantageous solution for operators wanting to build an NGN.
