Operators that do not have and do not plan to invest at once in an NGN, can connect their xDSL access nodes (DSLAMs) via Ethernet interfaces and establish transmission on the basis of Ethernet/IP networks.
The existing copper pair can be used for the connection from the exchange to the end user. The type of access (ADSL, VDSL) depends on the physical distance between the exchange and the end user.
The Iskratel DSL Access solution provides high-bandwidth VDSL2 and ADSL2+ technologies, which are the foundation for all triple-play and other multimedia services that the operator plans to provide for its end users. Based on pure IP technology, the solution supports multiple IPTV streams on each and every broadband port simultaneously.
Combined with G.SHDSL interfaces, the solution allows operators to make use of the entire capacity of their existing access networks and serve residential and business customers within a single platform, thus increasing profitability and gaining a decisive advantage over the competition.

Solution description
In today’s telecommunications world the end user’s need for higher bandwidths is increasing drastically. This trend is fuelled by various new, multimedia services and it is a major challenge for today’s service providers and operators to follow the trend. On the other hand, the co-existence of standard and new technologies is also an increasingly important factor, since both technologies will coexist for many years. With the DSL Access solution, which is field proven and could satisfy mid-term demands for multimedia services, the operator can gradually follow the high bandwidth-growth trend on an existing copper infrastructure, with the possibility to support legacy narrowband interfaces from the same chassis, if needed.
The complete DSL Access solution covers the following network elements:
the state-of-the-art Home Gateways at the customer premises (CPEs),
the SI3000 DSL Access or SI3000 MSAN with the appropriate access blades,
the network elements, which provide integration into the global data network (Ethernet L2/L3 aggregation switches and Broadband Remote Access Servers (BRAS)).
In order to support high-quality multimedia and triple-play services in a single- or multi-operator environment according to TR-101 Broadband Forum recommendations, both the SI3000 DSL Access and SI3000 MSAN embeds advanced QoS, multicast and security features. As such the Iskratel access node is gradually becoming a functionally perfected and intelligent device, which also performs some higher-level network functions. In this way it fully supports all the required features for a carrier-grade delivery of triple-play, multi-media services in an open access, wholesale or “single service provider” network environment.
The DSL Home Gateway provides several Fast Ethernet interfaces, FXS, FXO and Wireless interfaces to the end users and connects to the xDSL copper line at the network side. Home Gateways fully support triple-play services and provide a one-box solution for the DSL modem, router and Ethernet switch. They are very complex devices and play an important role in the DSL Access solution. The following HGWs are supported:
- the VDSL2 HGW Proteus,
- the ADSL2+ HGW Sinope,
- the SHDSL CPE Titan.
The DSL Access solution also supports third-party CPEs.
From the management point of view the DSL Access solution is complemented with the SI3000 MNS (SI3000 Management System) advanced element management system, which includes FCAPS applications and can also be integrated via northbound interfaces with the operator's existing BSS/OSS systems.
