SI3000 MNS – Management System

Using associated Network Element Managers (NEMs) it provides the required functionality of Element (Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance and Security) Management for all the included Iskratel products in a particular network.

It additionally provides the supervision and alarm handling for Iskratel and some supported third-party network elements and the performance-data collection, processing and presentation, as well as call-detail-records collection, mediation and storage.

It enables the realization of the required open interfaces to support indirect interactions of higher-level Operations Support Systems (OSS) and Business Support Systems (BSS) with the managed products.

Besides its own extended system and applications management the SI3000 MNS (using associated NEMs) provides the following Element Management functionality for managed Iskratel products:

• Accounting Management, which deals with aspects of the accounting for delivered services
• Configuration Management, which deals with all the required configurations of a particular product
• Fault Management, which deals with the aspects of diagnostics for a particular product
• Performance Management, which deals with the aspects of performance-data collection, analysis and presentation
• Security Management, which deals with the security issues of interactions with a particular product

The SI3000 MNS also provides a significant portion of the usual Fault-Management OSS functionality. This enables an operator without its own umbrella Fault-Management OSS to minimize as much as possible the SI3000 network’s downtime.

The associated functionalities are:

• Supervision, which is realized as a set of hierarchically structured views of the managed network with the presented status of all the managed entities.
• Alarm handling, which provides mechanisms for well-coordinated alarms clearance in a multi-user service environment.
• Alarm history, which provides the means for the offline analysis of the network’s behavior.
• The context start of the management applications, which provides a user-friendly automatic start of product-dependent functionalities, with the presentation of a particular network element's data, and their manipulation.

In addition, the SI3000 MNS provides the Performance Management part of the usual Service Assurance OSS.

The associated functionalities are:

• Collection, analysis and presentation of performance data,
• Issuing of alerts toward network management systems when the threshold of a particular variable is exceeded, online statistics and history analysis,
• Preparation of reports,
• Mediation of QoS measurements for the IP services, and facilitation of threshold and trend analyses.

The SI3000 MNS also provides the functionality of Accounting Management, which takes care of the availability of the charging data for the billing and the Call Details Records (CDRs) data for the accounting and the network and service-assurance systems.

A smart and comprehensive management solution

The SI3000 MNS enables the set up and appropriate management of the SI3000 Control Plane, the SI3000 Access Plane and the SI2000 product families. It provides the required functionality of central supervision and management, which gives operators powerful, cost-effective control of thousands of network elements. With appropriate northbound interfaces it enables interactions with higher-level Operations Support Systems (OSS) for fault management, inventory management, network and service assurance and service provisioning and Business Support Systems (BSS) for billing and accounting. As a result, the SI3000 MNS solution is prepared to support the complete automation of the service-delivery and service-assurance processes. This enables operators to adequately control and ensure the fulfillment of service-level agreements and maintaining customers' high levels of satisfaction. Finally, the SI3000 MNS also supports the automation of the billing and accounting processes.

The SI3000 MNS is designed according to the Enhanced Telecom Operations Map™ (e-TOM) initiative under the Next Generation Operations Support System (NGOSS) framework for developing operational and business support systems and software.

The SI3000 MNS is able to cost-effectively comply with any requirements for the management of a particular SI2000/SI3000 network. The architecture of the SI3000 MNS application software ensures its adaptability to be installed on a single-server platform as well as to be installed over a Rack or Blade multi-server compounded platform. To comply with high-availability requirements, the SI3000 MNS can operate on one or several stand-alone pairs of servers, configured as a two-node clusters, running in the “Active/Standby” regime. In such a compounded, highly available server configuration the management data are highly available and stored externally on a storage device situated in the Storage Area Network (SAN).

The SI3000 MNS management processes are based on the manipulation of data that are situated on managed SI2000 and SI3000 network elements as well as on the SI3000 MNS, appropriately stored in carrier-grade databases.

The up-to-date status of the configuration of the managed network elements on the SI3000 MNS is provided by permanent data synchronization between the managed network elements and the central database of the SI3000 MNS.
