Belarusian Foreign Minister Visits Iskratel

During his official stay in Slovenia, the Belarusian Foreign Minister, Sergej Martinov, accompanied by his delegation, was invited to visit Iskratel on Tuesday, 6 April 2010. The invitation came from Iskratel’s CEO, Andrej Polenec, in order that Mr. Martinov could become better acquainted with Iskratel’s work in Belarus, to see the company’s headquarters, and to talk about Iskratel’s plans regarding the development of telecommunications in Belarus.
After an introductory presentation of the company and its product portfolio, they discussed the potential problems that Belarus will face if its national telecommunications services provider, Beltelekom, starts collaborating with only a single equipment supplier. The visitors agreed that at least one other telecommunications equipment supplier should be included. Beltelekom currently has several tenders invited, so that particular subject was briefly discussed, as Iskratel believes it can undoubtedly provide appropriate solutions.

As the Belarusian delegation was mostly interested in the financial aspects of the potential collaboration, representatives of NLB joined the meeting and confirmed the possibility of financing projects in Belarus, with additional help from other Slovenian banks. Iskratel raised the possibility of expanding its production facilities with certain technologies to Belarus, should their business start expanding due to larger or multiple deals. Even though no official document was signed during the high-profile visit, we hope that both sides will keep to their promise, which would result in a positive economic effect for Iskratel. After the discussions were finished, the visitors took a brief look at Iskratel’s Electronics Demonstration Room and the production lines.
