Due to the rapid development of the web and network technologies, more and more telecommunication services are shifted from the telecommunication area into the Internet world. Therefore, IMS-formats are gaining increasing importance, especially from the perspective of the operators.
"Developing marketable, competitive digital services and to establish them in the market is the goal of many world leaders in this sector. But the advantage of numerous functionalities often goes hand in hand with enormous complexity. Thereby especially the standardization compliance interoperability solutions have to be assured" says Prof. Dr. Thomas Magedanz, Head of Competence Center Next Generation Network Infrastructures (NGNI) at the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS.
“The functional upgrading of NGN solutions in the IMS direction brings advantage in convergent networks. A joint endeavour with Fraunhofer FOKUS confirms our commitment to the standards, and helps us formulate development policy for the future“, added Aleš Balanč, Head of the Multimedia Core product line at Iskratel.
Fraunhofer FOKUS could add its expertise to the cooperation with ISKRATEL in numerous projects with partners from industry and science. In the course of many testing projects with different companies, FOKUS test components are now fully developed and therefore have a high degree of standards compliance.
During the cooperation project FOKUS researchers tested the compliance of the FOKUS and ISKRATEL solutions with future telecommunication services. These are including i.e. the Rich Communication Suite (RCS) and the Multimedia Telephony (MMTel) services. As a result of the cooperation, the Voice-over-LTE-ready C-IMS-solution of ISKRATEL successfully interacted with FOKUS test components.
